Through a time and space I re-emerged for the weekend in my homeland of New Mexico. Greeted by a vast expansive landscape that connect any adventurer to new art experiences. These interactive new art media connected me wholelisticly to the oddities, creativity, and wonder of a desert odyssey.
First up the annual Currents New Media Show
held at El Museo Cultural De Santa Fe in the Railyard Plaza. This industrial rail yard has been modernized to be the mecca for all things contemporary art (Site Santa Fe being a major on site institution) Currents is a large interactive instillation show featured hundreds of artists, held in a giant warehouse space complete with full stage for time based performances. The goal of Currents is to be:
"showcasing interactive and fine art video installations, multimedia performances, single channel video, animation, digital dome programs, experimental documentary, web based/app art forms, architectural mapping, the oculus rift, robotics and 3D printing."
-just to name a few among new media and the merger of these various disciplines overlapping all collimating in grand experiments.
Next up Meow Wolf
This converted bowling ally in Santa Fe is the site for completely interactive, narrative, art instillation called The House of Eternal Return. This 2 hour long experience makes oh-so much since in the desert of New Mexico, where it is easy to believe in aliens, conspiracy, and portals to other dimensions. The list of artist that worked on the space goes on and on, funding was largely made possible by George R R Martin the local Santa Fe author.
